John Garfield Jr. was an American actor born on March 4, 1913, in New York City. He started his career in acting in the 1930s, and he became known for his intense and believable performances. Garfield appeared in several notable films, including "The Postman Always Rings Twice" (1946), "Gentleman's Agreement" (1947), and "Body and Soul" (1947), for which he received an Academy Award nomination.
Garfield was active in social causes, and he was a member of the Communist Party. This caused him to be targeted by anti-communist groups during the McCarthy era, which ultimately led to him being blacklisted and unable to find work. Garfield's health also declined during this time, and he died on May 21, 1952, at the age of 39 from coronary thrombosis.
